Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the FAQs we're often asked about the Boathouse - if you have a question and the answer is not covered below please send us an email and we'll be happy to help.
1. What are the arrival and departure times?
In order to provide our cleaning team with enough time to thoroughly clean and sanitise the property, we kindly request for you to check in no earlier than 3 pm on your day of arrival. For the same reason, we ask for you to please check out by 10 am on the day of your departure.
2. What is the check in procedure?
We will be in touch 14 days prior to your arrival with directions and check in details. You can reach us at any time should you have any questions by sending us an email or calling property manager Kieran directly on 07950994729.

3. Is the cottage dog friendly?
Yes! We love dogs and welcome one large or two medium well behaved dogs. We just ask the following:
-
Dogs are not invited onto the beds upstairs.
-
If your dog is used to sitting on the sofa next to you, please only invite it up if the sofa has been covered with a clean dog towel, or a beach towel (which we provide).
-
Please dry your dog thoroughly and wipe paws after walks and before entering the cottage.
-
Please pack everything you require for your dog/s including beds, bowls and dog towels.
-
Please ensure you pick up all dog toilets from the garden during your stay, and check before you depart.
Although the garden is enclosed, we can't guarantee that there are no gaps in the fence and therefore dogs will need watching at all times when in the garden. Please keep your dog/s on a lead when leaving the property to go for a walk, as there are steep drops from the cliffside down to the beach.
4. Is the cottage suitable for infants?
The Boathouse is ideally situated for a family seaside holiday. However due to the following factors, the cottage may not be suitable for babies who have started to crawl, or young children. We've listed the main reasons below, and ask that you make your own judgement before booking:
-
The Boathouse features hard wooden floors throughout the property.
-
The staircase is open plan with gaps between steps, and no fitted stair gates.
-
There is a log burner in the lounge with no fireguard.
-
We do not provide travel cots, high chairs or toys. (There are a selection of board games for older children!)
-
The property sits on the cliffside in Lee Bay, and although the garden is fenced we cannot guarantee that there are no gaps. Children will need watching and supervising at all times.
5. Is there off-road parking at The Boathouse?
Yes, there are two parking spaces on the driveway.
6. What's provided for use during our stay?
We aim to make your stay at The Boathouse as comfortable and enjoyable as possible and therefore provide the following amenities and supplies:
-
Tea, herbal tea, instant coffee and sugar
-
Nespresso pods for the coffee machine
-
Oatly Barista milk for the coffee frother
-
Tea towels, oven glove, washing up liquid & scourer, cooking oil & foil
-
Washing liquid, fabric conditioner, iron & ironing board
-
Hairdryer
-
Towels & beach towels
-
Toilet roll, kitchen roll, soap bars
-
Logs, charcoal, kindling & matches
7. What are the village amenities?
Our village has a brilliant friendly pub (The Grampus), and a Tea Room and gallery (open during the summer months). As there are no shops or convenience stores, it may be useful to either place a grocery delivery or plan a visit to our closest supermarket (Tesco) located in Ilfracombe, about a 10-minute drive away.
We have a great variety of restaurants close by, and are on hand to advise you should you need any guidance on the best places to dine. There is a Welcome Guide in the cottage which contains a selection of our favourites, but please let us know if you'd like some recommendations in advance of your arrival to enable you to book.
8. Can I arrange for a supermarket delivery?
Yes, we can recommend ordering deliveries from Sainsbury’s or Waitrose and Partners. Please ensure you select a delivery time to arrive after your arrival, allowing extra time for delays, traffic or road closures on the day.
9. Is there Wifi?
Yes The Boathouse has Wifi which you're welcome to use during your stay. It is a good connection (the smart TV uses the Wifi to stream) but please note it may not cope if 4 guests are streaming on personal devises at the same time!
10. What type of BBQ is provided?
There is a charcoal BBQ on the patio, and we provide some charcoal to get you going. If you plan to have multiple BBQs during your stay, please bring sufficient charcoal with you.
11. Who do I contact if I have any questions before or during my stay?
The Boathouse is managed by local husband-and-wife team Kieran and Helen, who live in Woolacombe. Having lived in the area for many years (including Lee village for 6 years!) they know the area well and are on hand to answer any questions you may have, or provide recommendations for restaurants, activities etc. They can be contacted anytime by email or you can reach Kieran directly on 07950994729.
